In 2021, Lil Nas X released his debut album MONTERO, and he invited us to create official visualizers for two new songs. Tales of Dominica is a catchy song in which Lil Nas X reflects on his recent lows and shares how scared he is to face his own reflections.
I extracted some of his life moments from the song and visualized his thoughts - a floating empty bed, a scene that is indistinguishable whether it's indoor or outdoor, and a misty forest that explores his self-doubt and repeated inner turmoil. My inspiration came from the scenes in Alice in Wonderland, making the setting more dreamlike, a style that fits Lil Nas X's unique and fantastical personality.
